Child drawing in workshop

Please note that this workshop will only be running until Fri 30th March 2012.

Using artworks, dramatic readings, role play and music, pupils explore this classic children’s sci-fi fairytale. We examine Ted Hughes’ narrative style and techniques to extend pupils writing and help them develop as critical readers.

 Aims (Skills, Knowledge, Activity, Result)

  • Encourage pupils to have a greater understanding and appreciation of the book
  • Explore themes and writing techniques found within Hughes work and analyse them
  • Provide opportunities for pupils to respond creatively, emotionally and intellectually to the text, artworks and music

What happens in a workshop

Using a wide range of Artworks to evoke the atmosphere of the book, the story is shared through dramatic reading, literacy games and drama activities. Pupils work individually, in pairs and groups to deconstruct compound words to create mini poems, experiment with syntactical styles, and role-play to encourage empathy and create slogans.
