Art, craft and design

Journaling Nature

Let us take you on a sensory journey through the seasons. We’ll collect natural elements and use them to explore colour, shape, pattern and texture. Pupils will document their discoveries in nature journals.

Portraits

Pupils observe and investigate the relationships between people and the objects depicted with them in their portraits. Then they create their own portraits using two and three-dimensional techniques.

Discovering Sculpture

During this introduction to sculpture, pupils use two and three-dimensional drawing techniques to create a sculptural artwork with wire, willow and wool.

Urban Prints

Join us on an interactive exploration of Manchester through the eyes of the artists who’ve depicted our city. Pupils build a vocabulary to describe the urban landscape then learn experimental drawing techniques and explore the print making process to create architectural cityscapes.

The year is 1485 and the Tudor dynasty is just beginning….
Pupils are invited to step back in time and take part in a variety of activities, including drama and role play, as we explore the structure of Tudor society and the events surrounding the English Reformation.

Literacy

Incredible Characters, Inventive Endings

Inspired by a range of curious objects, paintings and sculptures, pupils create characters, develop plots and propose resolutions for a fantastical story. They use drama and role play to develop their ideas and we capture their performances onto DVD for you to extend your visit back at school.

Using artworks, dramatic readings, role play and music, pupils explore this classic children’s sci-fi fairytale. We examine Ted Hughes’ narrative style and techniques to extend pupils writing and help them develop as critical readers.
