Choose from a range of activity workshops, all of which:

  • Last 1 hour 45 minutes.
  • Include practical activities led by artists/educators.
  • Are cross-curricular in approach and wherever possible, cross-cultural.
  • Are based on the permanent collections and often current special exhibitions.

Nature Trail


Pupils explore paintings and sculpture to discover the seasons, mini beasts, wildlife and things you find in the garden. Then they document their discoveries by creating colourful paintings using mixed media.

Pupils discover toys from the past in our paintings and decorative artworks. They handle original toys and learn how to play long-forgotten games.

Where the Wild Things Live

Inspired by Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are, pupils embark on mini adventures around the gallery. They explore artworks to discover real and imaginary animals and then create their own fantastical puppet creatures.

Heroes in a Small World

Using drama and small world role play, pupils explore paintings to examine the notion of what a hero is. Then they structure simple stories based upon their experiences, using a series of story-box scenarios.
